·         Jenna Leigh Lingerie launched only four years ago and has already had great success in establishing itself as a major contender in the intimates industry. That’s a great achievement! Did you expect such a big response this quickly?

I did not expect this big of a response so quickly. I think the overly positive response really showed that there was something “special” missing in the intimates marketplace in America. Magazine editors, boutiques, department stores, websites, celebrities, continue to flock towards the brand and every day I still pinch myself and say “is this real”?

·         Jenna Leigh lingerie has been featured in InStyle, Cosmo Magazine, Elle Magazine, Marie Claire, and even scored a cover shot with Kim Kardashian wearing a Jenna Leigh bra on Allure magazine! Would you say the Jenna Leigh woman is primarily style-driven?

Yes, definitely. Jenna Leigh is meant for women who care about their style from inside out. Of course, our fit is great and the lingerie is comfortable, but we really take pride in our style–keeping up with fashion trends, colors, shapes, patterns, etc.

·         You’ve cited metropolitan living, European lingerie, and photographer Slim Aarons as inspirations. What’s your process in taking an inspiration and turning it into a stylish, sexy bra or panty design?

As a designer, I get inspiration from just about anything and everything. I tend to be most inspired by travel, flowers, outdoor setting (beach, vineyards, gardens) – so if I am on a gorgeous beach and notice unique colors to the sand, I may use that as part of my next color inspiration and take a plain nude bra but add a grainy twist to it. Style evokes feelings for me, and I need positive feelings when I design so I can be creative.

·         Some women may hesitate because of the price-point. What distinguishes Jenna Leigh Lingerie from intimates that fall into a lower price range?

Our price point is actually very low for the quality, hand labor, and fabrication of the lingerie. I could charge 3x the price, but I don’t want to fall into the super exclusive high end category. Part of the reason the brand has been doing well in a short amount of time is because you are getting a superior luxury product with silk details, French lace, and handmade straps and closures, for a very understandable price.

·         Jenna Leigh is constantly evolving – What can we lingerie enthusiasts expect over the next few years?

I would like to dive into swim wear within a few years. I think I need just a few more seasons of lingerie before we branch out. But, I have been asked by many stores and customers to carry swim wear, so it’s something I look forward to!

The Basics of Etiquette: “You’ve got to cover your bottom and put your best foot forward.”

Rules of wearing:

When wearing dress pants: Beware of billowy boxers. You don’t want your shorts all bunched up. Wear either the trim-fitting, happy-medium of boxer briefs, or stick with the classics and go with trunks and briefs.

When wearing slim-fitting pants: Briefs are the obvious choice.

When on a 1^st date/Valentine’s/Wedding: Wear nice underwear every day, and you won’t have to worry about this.

Underwear Don’ts: Underwear is not meant to be outerwear. Don’t let it all hang out. Underwear should look like you’re wearing it, not the other way around as if it is wearing you. An oversized or overly complicated contraption can make you look like you’re its accessory.

The golden rule of etiquette: “Simper ubi sub ubi. Always wear underwear”

I have a confession: I pick my underwear out before I pick out my clothes each day. Sometimes the bra first, sometimes the panties, but I will skip wearing that new dress if it does not match my lingerie for the day. Being full-busted, I used to have trouble finding bras in my size, let alone bras pretty enough to sway my daily clothing selections. That has long since changed. With the growing popularity of lingerie brands designed for us D+ girls, I have amassed quite the expansive collection. But even now that I am an intimates-hoarder, I have recently felt like I was missing something in my wardrobe. I have practical, efficient and sleek, I have bold, bright, and daring, I have luxurious, glamorous, and detailed, and I have retro and sassy. But I was missing sweet, soft, and fun. Enter Curvy Kate, the ultimate in girly-girl lingerie. Its playful, feminine design has just the right balance of lace, frills, dots and bows, yet is strong, supportive and up-lifting.

So far I have tried Curvy Kate Princess and Lottie styles. I say “so far” because I already have the Romance and Emily collections in my shopping bag. Lottie was first. With the flat rose embroidery and pop of pastel, the Lottie Balcony Bra makes me want to spend the afternoon walking in a garden. It just feels so soft and fresh. The mesh upper cup lets me reveal a little without having it all hang out. And I always have a weakness for color.

Though Lottie may have been first, I find myself reaching for my Princess bra more and more, especially on days wear I am feeling a little saucy. I love the fuzzy felt dots. I’ve always been a sucker for spots and dots of all kinds, and these just make my nude bra pop (it’s also available in a sassy pink and saucy black).  Good bye boring and basic, Hello flirty favorite! Who knew anything “polka” could be this much fun?

Curvy Kate is definitely filling in some empty spaces in my collection. And as I fill in bras and panties I feel I’ve been missing, I’m discovering more that I wish I already had! But I am not afraid. I have seen what’s coming in from Curvy Kate, and trust me, there is even more to be excited about!

·         Cover Male, which just launched in January, has already had a great response from consumers. What do you think sets Cover Male apart from other sexy men’s underwear brands?

As Cover Male’s Designer, one of the main things that I try to concentrate on is always having that touch of elegance and sophistication in every single piece designed, not only to create timeless and classic undergarments for the modern male, but to create/boost the self-confidence and self-satisfaction that every man deserves. I believe that Cover Male works well on portraying these elements with its bold colors and modern cuts; making Cover Male the new “it” and “must-have” brand of the year.

Yes, in a way it was. Before designing any piece for Cover Male, I and everyone that puts an effort on making CM underwear, work our best to have the perfect understanding of the male form. This allows us to provide the perfect fit for all men, giving them the most suitable fabric/cut for each piece that works in respecting the body size and shape of their form. Well-fitted, colorful underwear shows confidence in one’s body and assures they are not afraid to show it off.

·         What’s next for Cover Male?

Cover Male has a lot of new collections coming up. We are ready to launch our swim collection that I am very excited for everyone to have! I hope that my designs for this collection will be part of everyone’s fun in the sun memories.

We are also launching our cotton collection (CM by Cover Male) later next month, so be ready for a brand new must-have!

Last but not least, I am working on finalizing the Sports collection for Cover Male that will be released sometime in May, we hope.

The recent weather changes had me thinking… girls are popping up in spring dresses left and right, tank tops are once again to be seen in the office, short shorts will be an essential part of my outfits if I am to survive another summer in the hot city, and summer vacations to the beach – oh god! I should have stuck to that New Year’s resolution and gone to the gym at least twice a week!

Hmmm…  Maybe not!  I still have 2 months left of spring and there’s no better time than now to get in shape.  And with Spanx’s Active wear line, I am confident I’ll get there in style.  And the greatest thing about Spanx – (and shapewear in general) is that if I don’t get there – no one will know! The material is so soft and comfortable that I find I can wear it in-between nail appointments and spin class without wanting to change.

It makes packing for the gym one of the easiest tasks of my day (no need to dig through my bottomless bag). C-IN2 Filthy is already a huge success after only a few weeks. What influenced you to create this collection?

I have to say that originally people thought I was a little crazy trying to make Filthy underwear.  Our more conventional consumers didn’t immediately get the concept.  But knowing our target demographic, we thought they’d not only understand it, they’d love it.   The truth is that there’s something sexy about someone being sweaty and dirty.

What was the influence behind C-IN2 Grip?

I’ve always wanted to do an athletic line but the idea of wearing polyester underwear has never been appealing.  With recent developments in fabric technology, this collection has been made possible.  It’s the best of both worlds high – performance and comfortable.

We are very excited about C-IN2 Swim coming soon to Freshpair, what can you tell us about creating swimwear for C-IN2?

C-IN2 swim has two categories of suits - Woven trunks with varied lengths and a knit Brazilian square-cut suit.  However, we made a change.  We’ve had many requests for a swimsuit with a comfortable contour pouch.  The C-IN2 answer was to put a pleat in the crotch of the suit, providing more room.  To the wearer it just feels comfortable because you aren’t compressed.  To an onlooker, the pleat is invisible.
